His Ray of Sunshine's Story

Our Journey & Story

Everyone has a journey and a story to tell. This is mine. This program (His Ray of Sunshine) is close to my heart as are cancer warriors and their caregivers. I myself have been in the role of both warrior and caregiver.

After a long hard-fought battle and beating the odds, my mom became a breast cancer survivor. Being a caregiver for her gave me knowledge, helped me address and work through fear, and strength and courage when I faced my own breast cancer diagnosis right after my mom passed away 5 years ago.

A little over 2 years ago my dad was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (terminal brain cancer). He took his diagnosis with fear, grace and determination to somehow be/provide a solution to the diagnosis that ends the lives of too many people. Despite being terminal, he was determined to help others before and after his passing through research.

My dad always thought outside of the box. He was creative, self-taught, ambitious and solution-focused with a big heart. In being like him in so many ways I wanted to find a way to help others in a more tangible way and give back for all the blessings I've been given in my life. I've experienced the trauma, hardship and heartbreak of cancer through both lenses as a caregiver and survivor.

Self-care and overall well-being are so important on this journey. I believe it is crucial to have a refreshed and healthy caregiver providing care and support. Equally important and crucial is the optimism and strength of mind of the warrior to allow them to heal and thrive.

From this belief, His Ray of Sunshine bloomed.

  • His – for our Father God, giver of blessings
  • Ray – my dad's name
  • Sunshine – my nickname for my dad

I have joined forces with Marianne Fink and her wonderful staff at Wellness Studio to offer self-care services to warriors and their primary caregiver.
